But when treatment is over….you want the port out….you want the reminder of your battle gone! It means a lot to your recovery….
It means an end to the chemotherapy.
It means that the most intense, painful stage of treatment is over.
It means reversal of at least one bodily alteration.
It promises the hope of a return of what was taken away by the cancer.
To many doctors, removing a port is supposed to be an easy procedure…however not to the doctors in Juneau. Apparently this is a big deal to them...they want to use an anesthetic and put Julie under. “No F_*%$#@*% way”…says Julie…I have been “put to sleep” enough in the past two years.
So after consulting with the reconstruction surgeon, Julie will live with her port for another few months. It has been part of her journey since April 2008 and the decision has been made that it will come out when she begins her reconstruction surgery in September….but that is okay as that is when she will be getting her new "20 year old boobies" as she calls them.
Still fighting…..and with a sense of humor to boot!! You go girl!!
A proud mama……….Jan
