There are over 2 million breast cancer survivors.....mothers, daughters, sisters, friends......below is a post from a young friend of mine who tells it from the heart......and in her own words. After reading this, dry your eyes and pray that breast cancer does not affect your loved ones, pass this one to friends and family.....then please donate to help find a cure so other young mothers do not have to go through this.
Why I do it… A heartfelt definition of why I will walk. As many of you have noticed, I have begun my fundraising efforts for the 2nd year to participate in the Susan G. Komen Seattle 3Day Breast Cancer Walk. The donation link on my page does not lead you directly to my story, so I chose to take the time to tell you from the rawest place in my heart why I am willing to walk 20 miles a day for three straight days after I have spent over three years battling breast cancer.
You’d think I would give myself a break. I refused to quit on myself and again I outright refuse to quit on every future cancer patient.
I will not sugarcoat it. 1 out of 7 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime!! 240,000 women are diagnosed each year and 40,000 women a year DIE of breast cancer. Every 13 minutes a woman DIES of breast cancer. This is your mother, daughter, girlfriend, wife, sister, cousin, best friend, grandmother, aunt, niece, and granddaughter. You may be alarmed to know that the younger a woman is the more aggressive the cancer is and the higher the mortality rate.
FEEL YOUR BOOBS! The youngest recorded case of breast cancer was a 10 yr old girl from CA. I am connected to a sister survivor who was diagnosed at 19 years old. This is an epidemic that MUST BE STOPPED! There are also over 2 million breast cancer survivors! This is only possible because of early detection funded by awareness and money to fund the research that we need to save lives! Susan G. Komen lost her life to breast cancer and it was her sister that granted Susan’s dying wish to do everything to stop it. The organization is the largest grass roots non profit in the world! Fundraisers and donors are truly saving lives, including mine.
Many of you know that I have battled breast cancer twice. The first chemotherapy regimen I was on included drugs that had just been authorized for use in 2005 and 2007. Had the research not been funded I might not be here able to type this letter. No, don’t pass the sugar. I am not finished. Do you want to know why I am willing to bust my ass and my feet walking 60 miles on uneven terrain in hot weather with my feet bleeding inside my shoes??
…Because PERSONALLY, no brand new mother should ever have to clutch her baby in her arms sobbing silently for weeks with visions of her baby growing up and never knowing his mother, like I did. Because no mother should have to watch months of confusion on her child’s face as she tells him for the thousandth time she still can’t hold him because her body hurts too bad, debilitated by numerous surgeries. Because no woman should ever have to stand in front of a mirror starring at her horrible scars crying and wondering if a man would ever find her attractive again, like I did. Or wondering if a man will ever love her again because she no longer can have anymore children, like I did.
Because I can’t go one f@cking day without wondering if I am going to see my son start kindergarten, learn to ride a bike, go on a date, graduate from college, or fall in love. I am a mother, a sister, a girlfriend, a cousin, a niece, a best friend, and a daughter. I am a patient of a disease who is trying to rob me and all of those close to me of my LIFE!
So, YES…I am going to beg you for your money, your awareness, your ability to pass on my story. YES, I am going to gather an army of cancer warriors and we are going to make a difference!! Yes, I am going to spend the rest of my life busting my ass to protect your daughters, mothers, nieces, grandmothers, cousins, wives, girlfriends, granddaughters and sisters.
And YES, I am going to fight to be here for my son because he deserves to have his mother!
Please give great consideration to donating to my cause. Please click this link and donate. Thank you.
