Did you know one in eight women will have breast cancer in their lives...and you will know at least one of them? Those statistics are very alarming to me and that is why I work so diligently on this cause.
This year in addition to a lovely lunch, fashion show and a presentation by a local surgeon, we had an awesome speaker who told her story of battling IBC with hope and humor. Her story was heartfelt and moving and there was not a dry eye in the audience. And it was especially moving to me as her story is so very close to our own. Heidi Marble is a 10 year survivor of Inflammatory Breast Cancer and has made it her mission in life to raise money to find a cure for breast cancer. You can read more about Heidi, her artwork and her book "Waiting for Wings" by clicking on the link.
....and the biggest news is that we made the local newspaper and our blog was listed for information on IBC. That makes it all worth it to me and give me reason to continue working on finding all the information I can on breast cancer research.
...and if you have a chance to pick up an October 30th edition of the Juneau Empire, they did a feature article on Julie and her battle with IBC. It was a heart wrenching article and Julie did a wonderful job of telling her story....she makes me very proud. I wish I could post it on this blog...but the Juneau Empire did not have the article in their online edition.
So I am calling the "October Breast Cancer Awareness" blitz a huge success. Every organization and individual that was involved was able to inform and touch many hearts......and that is a good thing, a very good thing.
We hope you schedule your mammogram too! Jan
