Her exact words were “I ran an entire mile yesterday without stopping…..then walked 5 minutes and than ran another mile and then walked at an incline for 10 minutes and the slow walk for 5 minutes...I kept telling myself that I went through cancer treatment, I CAN DO IT...I was hurting to get through it but I did it...I only have two weeks to be able to run three miles for the Cancer Connection..I CAN DO IT!!!!”
Now for those of you that are just tuning in, Julie battled IBC last year and just completed treatment in February of this year – in fact, just one year ago today she was having surgery, which was followed by chemo, radiation, and more chemo. As a mom who is always trying to protect their young, my inclination is to tell her she is doing too much, to take it easy, to take care of herself….but she has a mind of her own and a very strong willed so I also know she can do it – because she already has Beat the Odds!
I am so very proud and happy that she has connected with other survivors and is sharing her story. I was thrilled to see that the Cancer Connection in Juneau had a direct link on their website about Inflammatory Breast Cancer and they are doing all they can do to help everyone in Alaska “Beat the Odds”.
Please keep Julie in your thoughts as she runs her first 5K. And if you can, join her on August 29th and cheer her on as she continues her journey to Beat the Odds and Kick Cancer’s Ass!!!
A very proud mom today, Jan
