Why Didn't I Think of That....

Have you ever heard or seen something and wondered “why didn’t I think of that?” I received an email this week ~ reminding me to honor and remember all the special women in my life this Mother’s Day by making a donation to the American Cancer Society.

My mother passed away from cancer (as did my dad) over 15 years ago ~ and not once did I ever think about honoring them with a donation. I have flowers placed on their graves several times a year, I work diligently on the Relay for Life and honor them with luminaries, but why I never made a donation in their honor on ‘their’ day ~ is beyond me. I am ashamed of myself.

This Mother's Day, I am joining ACS and inviting you to honor and remember all the special women in your life by giving a donation to your American Cancer Society. When you make your gift, they will send the person you honor or a designated recipient an embossed personalized card, notifying them of your thoughtful contribution.

As we save lives from cancer, what we are really doing is giving mothers, daughters, sisters and friends more of their most precious commodity ~ time. More time with their family and friends and more milestones ~ like more Mother's Days and more birthdays. We're all working to create a world with more birthdays ~ and less cancer ~ for everyone.

Instead of buying flowers or candy this Mother's Day (or in addition to) you can help save lives and create a future with more birthdays and more Mother's Days. Together, we can save lives every day by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against a disease that has taken too much from all of us already!

So this is a BIG HINT to my kids ... I don't need anymore stuff ... make a donation in my honor so that all of us can be cancer free and so that I can be around to drive you all crazy when I am an old, old woman. Happy Mother’s Day to all, Jan
