Honor Your Heroes on This Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a time of picnics, parties, parades and for honoring our heroes. We hope all of you are taking time to commemorate this special day with your family and friends and to place wreaths and flags on the graves of those we have lost.

Memorial Day has always been a day of unity — a time for Americans to come together in remembrance of our fallen heroes from wars past and present and to honor and support their loved ones whose lives have been altered forever. My father, my husband, my son-in-law and several uncles and cousins have all served in the military, and I thank them, as well as all of the others, for their service to our country.

We must also support our troops and their families, who need and deserve our care in this time of crisis. Family and friends who lose loved ones in America’s conflicts must learn to live with a hole in their hearts that cannot be filled. And for those who’s loved ones who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, modern warfare has caused new a kind of loss. In today’s battlefield soldiers are returning home with wounds, both seen and unseen, that can severely compromise hopes for the future or even end any possibility of leading a full life.

In the meantime, please say a prayer for our soldiers and remember to honor them on Monday, May 25th.

God Bless America, Jan
