Signs & Symptoms of Inflammatory Breast Cancer

IBC is very often misdiagnosed because there usually is no lump and because so few primary care doctors have ever seen a case. Compared to other breast cancers, little is known about it. Estimates range from one to six percent of all breast cancer cases are IBC. Each day brings new hope for better diagnosis and treatment for IBC patients.
Signs to look for that you may have inflammatory breast cancer:

• Itching or pain in the breast that does not stop

• Nipple discharge
• The nipple indenting or flattening
• Swollen lymph nodes under your arms or on your neck
• A sudden warm feeling or swelling in the breast
• You may see a lump but that is not always the case
• Sometimes you will see bruising that will not dissipate
• Ridges in the breast skin
• Thickness of skin in certain areas of the breast
• Any redness or change in color of the areola
• One breast swells larger than the other
• Orange peel of the skin, looks like dimples on your breasts

If you show any of these signs consult with your doctor immediately. The best thing to do is to hit this cancer head on and to be as informed as possible. This is the most aggressive type of breast cancer and should be dealt with aggressively. The better informed and sooner you make your decision on how to treat your cancer, the better chance you have. Don’t ignore the signs; ask your doctor even if you think it may be nothing.
