Jan (the mom) was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2006 ~ it was a small tumor, found early and surgery and treatment were a "piece of cake" as cancer treatment goes.
Julie (the daughter) was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer in 2008. Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare and very aggressive type of breast cancer that causes the lymph vessels in the skin of the breast to become blocked. This type of breast cancer is called "inflammatory" because the breast often looks swollen and red, or "inflamed". IBC accounts for 1% to 5% of all breast cancer cases in the United States.
Treatment has been not been easy, but she is nearing the end of her treatments as this blog starts. In hindsight we wish we would have started this at the beginning..........
But this is the beginning.............as this is our story of survival and kickin' cancer's ass.
